He Can’t See With His Glasses

Just like every time I go to the airport, I got to work three hours early today. Only this time it was a mistake because the roster was changed two weeks back and I didn’t read it. That kinda sucks as I’m really looking forward to a sleep in. Fingers crossed I can get a good sleep this weekend.

I have new glasses. They’re these Oakley glasses which Misa-chan picked the frames for, but I don’t like them. You see, I had my eyes checked at the optometrist and they prescribed something a bit stronger than my 4 year old glasses, and that was all good. I find looking at the computer and phone hard these days, everything up close is so blurry. I picked up the glasses last weekend in the store and tried them on in the store and wow, I can see my phone. It’s large and clear. But everything else, not so clear. That’s okay, I thought, I got these to look at the phone and computer.

The whole point of the glasses was to make things easier to see, but at home I can’t clearly see the TV 1.5m away with them on. On this MacBook I need to find the sweet spot to have it looking clear, and I can’t turn my head slightly left to right when reading. At work, we’ve these people who come in to buy things that we call customers, and I have many things to look at that are further away than the computer screen. When looking at the screen on an angle, it’s all distored – like a square turns into a rhombus, and if looking slightly off it’s a warped, blobby mess.

These new glasses suck. I’m putting them on and taking them off 100 times a day, just to see. Things got so bad yesterday that my eyes were hurting. I took them off at 12pm and everything was still warped until after 5pm. I could normally see distant things clear, but now I can’t. I feel tired and drunk. My previous glasses I could move my eyes up/down, left/right, and it was all good. Now I need to move the top half of my body and eyes to make sure I have the correct thing in focus, because if I don’t it I can’t read properly.

I’m going back to the optometrist on the weekend to ask their advice. I’m not liking the two different focal lengths, plus having to take them off to see anything further than a metre away. Actually, if I tilt my head down a little and have my eyes looking up, like someone is interrupting me, then I can see distant objects and text a little clearer. I’d rather not look at customers with that condescending look.

Today at work I have two pairs to wear, the new and old ones, to persevere with the new ones, but have a backup plan if my eyes hurt again. Wish me luck!
