2026 was starting for me at 4am. We planned to wake early to go do our 10th annual watching the first sunrise of the year. Right on cue, Mac Miller’s Circles begins, it’s the perfect alarm to wake to, and I get up, still sleepy because it’s 4am and dark. I notice the bathroom fan.
Misa-chan walks out of the bathroom.
Congratulations!
I knew instantly what that meant. We’d talked about it a few days earlier, but this was confirmation. Misa-chan is pregnant.
Three weeks later, it still doesn’t feel real. We’re very excited, but also weirded out. All our friends with kids had kids 10-15 years ago. We’re kinda old, and had given up hope because nothing has happened since we got married, not from lack of trying, anyway. We will now have a little one to raise, to grow and nurture. Better late than never, huh?
We’ve not told anyone, apart from our GP who has confirmed with blood tests the pregnancy, and my two superiors at work. Nobody from my family reads this anyway, so it’s not like they’re going to randomly stumble upon this and get some goss to share.
But yeah, some big news to start the year. We’ve got a referral to an ultrasound in a few weeks time, and should that be a success (why wouldn’t it be?) we get referred to the midwives at our local hospital.
I’ll keep you posted as time progresses. Right now we’re trying to agree on names that work well in Japan and Australia for boys and girls.
